Foam products

For a surprisingly broad range of applications at your business, foam products are a great choice.

Foam products are any part, component, packaging, insert, or other item manufactured using foam. The range of foam products available is almost limitless, spanning everything from heavy-duty industrial parts to flotation aids and pool noodles. Foam is also widely used in presentational and protective packaging, applications requiring insulation and sound/vibration dampening, and specialist industries such as aviation and medical.

At Polyformes, we have the ability to design and manufacture foam products that are tailored precisely to your specific requirements. Our designers and foam experts can develop foam products unique to your business, providing the highest level of performance whilst also considering your budget and sustainability.

FAQs

The type of foam used to manufacture a specific product depends on the intended use and the expected conditions it will encounter. However, closed-cell foams such as Plastazote®, Evazote®, and ZOTEK® are incredibly versatile, used for everything from protective packaging to swimming aids and aircraft seating.

The vast majority of foam products are non-toxic and completely safe for everyday use. Depending on the specific material type/grade, new foam products may emit a temporary odour. This is due to a process known as off-gassing, and is caused by the release of low concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) left over from the manufacturing process. However, many foams, such as Zotefoams range, avoid this due to their unique manufacturing process.

Most foams are recyclable at specialist recycling centres, although they are not currently accepted in UK kerbside recycling schemes. However, it is important to note that most foam products are designed for long-term, repeated use, rather than for single or one-time use

Closed-cell foam does degrade over time, but the process is incredibly slow compared to other materials. When not exposed to UV or mechanical stress, rigid closed-cell materials can last 30 to 50+ years without losing their structural integrity. Even for demanding applications (such as industrial gaskets or parts), the expected lifespan remains considerably longer than that of alternative materials.
