Gift Box Foam

If you are looking to provide a premium experience for your customers, gift box foam is a great way to do so.

Gift box foam is a high-quality insert used for presenting products to customers. Unlike typical foam packaging, higher-quality materials such as Plastazote® are typically suited to this application. While the presentation foam provides cushioning protection and holds the contents in place, its primary objective is to provide a good unboxing experience for the recipient. Gift box foam is also often used as “added value” packaging, where the recipient retains the box and insert for ongoing storage.

At Polyformes, we can provide precisely cut or moulded foam inserts for gift boxes that provide a genuinely exceptional appearance. We can offer laser-etched logos and branding, foams laminated with a material for an enhanced finish, or, uniquely, full-colour print directly onto the foam surface.

FAQs

There are several types of foam that are suitable for creating gift box inserts. For high-end luxury items like jewellery, watches, or cosmetics, EVA foam (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) is often preferred for its smooth, premium feel and sharp, clean edges. For heavier or fragile items that also require structural support, Polyethylene (PE) foam is best, while budget-friendly or lightweight items may use softer Polyurethane (PU) foam.

Premium gift box foams, specifically high-quality Plastazote® or EVA foams, are engineered to be completely inert, non-toxic, and odourless. These properties ensure that the unboxing experience isn’t ruined by a chemical smell and guarantee the material won’t react with, stain, or scratch sensitive product surfaces like metal, glass, or silver.

Gift box foam inserts are manufactured using several techniques, including CNC routing, die or waterjet cutting, and even heat moulding. These allow the creation of pockets and recesses in the foam that are very closely tailored to the contours of the products placed in them, improving protection and appearance.

It is possible to apply branding directly to gift box foam in several ways. When heat-formed, it is easy to emboss or deboss the foam to add logos and decorative designs. For other foam inserts, branding can be added using laser etching. Polyformes can also add full-colour printing to the top surface of the foam, opening up almost limitless design possibilities.
