Foam Conversion

If your business requires specialist foam packaging or products, the foam conversion processes used can have a big impact on the final outcome.

Foam conversion is the process of transforming raw foam material into functional products. Foam conversion includes cutting (CNC, waterjet and die cutting), shaping, laminating, welding and even engraving and printing. Essentially, foam conversion is the process of manufacturing foam packaging, inserts, insulation, and other products.

At Polyformes, we are the UK’s largest foam converter. We take on many technical projects beyond the capabilities of other converters, using our state-of-the-art foam machining equipment to create solutions perfectly tailored to your specific requirements.

Additional foam conversion processes

Alongside the primary foam-cutting services we employ at Polyformes, we also utilise a range of lesser-known techniques and methods.

Chamfering

Chamfering is a process used to ensure foam inserts fit inside protective cases. Many cases and containers feature slightly sloped sections on the lid and the case, so a perfectly square insert would not fit precisely.

Butt Welding

Butt welding is a technique that increases the blank size of the material to be processed. This is common when aiming to improve yield for cut-out parts or when requiring a larger finished-length piece. The maximum size we can create is 2m x 2m.

Lamination

Lamination is a process that joins foam pieces to increase the material’s height to the required dimension.

Profile cutting

Polyformes use a machine originally designed to work with polyurethane foam that can cut profiles along a two-metre length.
