Sustainability

If your business is looking to improve the sustainability of your packaging, promotional items or other foam products, we can help.

At Polyformes, we strongly believe that high-performance foam engineering and environmental responsibility should work together seamlessly. Our position as a leading supplier and converter of closed-cell polyethylene foams means we are actively shifting the industry toward a more sustainable, circular economy.

Whether your business is working toward specific targets, looking to reduce single-use plastic tax liabilities, or re-engineering an old industrial supply chain for circularity, Polyformes provides the physical data, material traceability, and advanced engineering capabilities to make it happen.

Advantages

Circularity and reuse

True sustainability begins by designing out waste. While traditional single-use packaging frequently ends up in landfill, the core part of our business focuses on custom, multi-trip returnable transit solutions.

The closed-cell structure of our polyethylene foam products is resistant to moisture, chemicals, and repeated physical impacts. These properties mean our custom case inserts, component trays, and returnable dunnage can be reused thousands of times across your supply chain before structural degradation occurs. Implementing lightweight custom foam packaging within your logistics also directly lowers shipping weights, reducing fuel consumption and the carbon footprint of your vehicle fleet.

As a result, our lightweight, highly durable foam solutions are specifically engineered to reduce waste, maximise reusability, and assist recyclability at end-of-life, all without ever compromising on precision or product safety.

Material

Recycled materials

We have developed several strategic partnerships with leading foam manufacturers, allowing us to supply and convert a range of materials with high recycled content that behave exactly like virgin materials.

Design expertise

Material reduction

Regardless of whether the application calls for recycled or virgin material, we will always ensure that we minimise the amount of material used in your packaging/products.

Before converting a single sheet of foam with our CNC routers, water-jet cutters, or other manufacturing equipment, our design team uses advanced computer-aided design (CAD) software to create the most material-efficient designs. These not only maximise material yields (from sheets/blocks), but are also calculated to provide the precise protection and performance required without excessive material use.

This approach not only lowers costs but also reduces pack sizes (lowering fuel consumption and emissions), prevents product damage, and minimises material waste.

Our business

Our operations

Material reduction is not only the way we strive to make our operations more sustainable.

We automatically collect every single piece of clean polyethylene waste generated from our conversion processes for recycling. We then shred this post-industrial material using our own in-house equipment, before supplying the recovered foam to manufacturers for processing into new materials.

Beyond this, our conversion facility in Leighton Buzzard is well invested and modern, utilising cutting-edge, energy-efficient equipment. We also power our site using green energy from renewables, including our own solar panels on our roof. These provide approximately a quarter of the energy we use, and are predicted to deliver approximately 41 metric tonnes of carbon savings per year (equivalent to 1,032 metric tonnes over their 25-year lifespan).
