Foam Edge Protectors

If you need simple, flexible protection for larger or unusually shaped products, foam edge protectors can be very effective.

Foam edge protectors are long strips of foam designed to protect sharp corners and edges from damage. They are typically manufactured from Polyethylene (PE) foam and supplied in flexible, non-abrasive 2-meter “U” or “L” profiles that easily clip onto and grip the sides of a product. Their similar design to foam impact protection strips also makes them exceptionally versatile, being suitable for a range of different product shapes and sizes.

As one of the UK’s largest foam converters, Polyformes can help your business if you require large volumes of foam edge protectors, have a custom requirement, or are a reseller of protective packaging products. We can also help everyday users as part of Macfarlane Packaging.

FAQs

Foam edge protectors are used in packaging to cushion and protect the vulnerable edges and corners of items during transit. They protect delicate products like furniture, glass, electronics, and artwork from structural dents, surface scratches, and marking.

Most foam edge guards do not require adhesive or tape when attached to products. Many are manufactured in a U-shape or “tulip” profile that relies on natural friction to grip the edges securely. If the protection strip is loose, standard packing tape or stretch wrap can hold it in place.

Foam edge protectors are non-abrasive, meaning they will not scratch or mark product surfaces. Typically made from closed-cell polyethylene (PE) or polyurethane (PU) foam, they pare safe for direct contact with wood, glass, polished metal, glossy plastics and other decorative surfaces.

U-profile (or tulip-profile) foam wraps around both sides of an edge, clamping onto thin items like glass panels, mirrors, and frames via friction. L-profile foam guards cover a single 90-degree angle, making them better suited for long edges on large furniture, pallets, and white goods.
